About the Author
Lt Col Marc Himelhoch, USAF (Ret) is a pilot with over 6000 hours total flight time. He grew up in Clearwater, Florida where he met his wife Missy. Marc graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida with honors and a master of science degree in aeronautical science. In 1995, Marc was commissioned into the USAF as a second lieutenant. During his air force career, Lt Col (Ret) Marc Himelhoch served as an F-16 instructor pilot (IP) and evaluator pilot. He served four assignments in the F-16 as well as two assignments as an IP in the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program located at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas where he taught primary pilot training in the T-37 and in the T-6A. He has almost 300 combat flight hours and has participated in Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, NORTHERN WATCH, JOINT GUARDIAN, NOBLE EAGLE and IRAQI FREEDOM. Marc retired from active duty as a lieutenant colonel in 2014. After his retirement he obtained his multi-engine instructor certificate and a B-737 type rating. During his transition from military to airline pilot, Marc interviewed with and received conditional job offers from XOJET, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, and Southwest Airlines. He accepted an offer from JetBlue and briefly worked there, obtaining an A320 type rating, before being hired by and transitioning to his “final destination†as a pilot with Southwest Airlines. Marc is domiciled in Dallas, Texas where he lives with his wife Missy Shorey who is founder and CEO of Shorey Public Relations.

This is an awesome book that brings to light all the details needed to start your transition from Military to Commercial Pilot. If you have just completed flight school or you are less than a year out from retirement/transition this book will help you understand the business of commercial aviation and what they are looking for. It provides a ton of resources that will help shape resumes, prep you for interviews and get your log book ready. I highly recommend this book to anyone (Military or not) who is thinking about flying commercially.
There is a ton of online gouge about the airline hiring process. Sifting through it all could be a full time job in and of itself.This book did an outstanding job of consolidating a ton of information into a clear, concise, easy to read book. I was fortunate to have a CJO from my target airline in hand before I bought this book, but I found myself nodding my head in agreement with just about everything the author was saying.It’s the best $20 you will invest towards the goal of landing your dream job.
Great information and for a guide/advice book, it is quite riveting -an entertaining and informative read. I wish I had read this book in UPT, it's useful even if you decide against going to the airlines. I would call this a must read for any military aviator transitioning to the airlines.
The thing I liked most about this book was that it took a lot of information from various sources and consolidated them into one book. There are also lots of good references for other reading material, test prep, etc. Recommend!
