A standalone book, no prequel or sequel that I know of. I read the well printed and bound trade paperback. This is a first contact space opera book set in the mid 22st century. This is the author's fifth published book, I will continue to purchase anything he writes. The authors previous books were self published but Amazon has apparently dropped the self publishing for trade paperbacks.The author takes an interesting angle on the first contact saga. Of course, the galaxy is at war and the two sides are recruiting. But the interesting kick is how the recruiting happens by the so-called "good" side. Not an out and out terraforming like the Chtorr series but definitely a transforming of one person.
I struggle with this review. The story was solid, the narration was solid, but I felt something was lacking to give 5 stars. I am glad it seems to be a stand alone novel I don’t think I would want to read any more on this story line. There were some places in the story where, if Taylor had taken a different route I would have been itching to see where the story could go. As I listened to the audiobook I kept feeling like I would get my wish at the next turn, but it just didn’t happen. I will admit, especially since I listened to the book, I was expecting more of the feel I get from the Bobiverse books. I have listened to each of them repeatedly.Regardless, I was entertained, the characters were engaging, I definitely became attached to Ivan, though I think there were more opportunities for him to really show off his new powers. The supporting characters were realistic and captivating in their own right. Like i said, so close to 5 stars.Anyway, I look forward to Taylor’s next novel.

No less interesting I might add.More serious than the Bob series but maintained at a good level.There are dozens of real-life quick triggering commanders (MacArthur quickly comes to mind. Korea would have long united had he not decided to invade the Chinese by crossing the Yalu river) making bad decisions costing the lives of millions and Moore was well described but his turning to a more pacifist approach to later events shows a part of humanity many real life do/did not possess.The description of the the Russian-Sino coalition fits the author’s Cold War mentality. But he’s definitely not alone and I’m sure many supports his views and this is exactly how the US government has been dealing Russia and China.
Taylor absolutely hit it out of the park with the Bobiverse but I found The Singularity Trap lacking. Bob was filled with subtle geeky humor that I loved. This one, however, was one giant missed opportunity to explore the adventures and newfound abilities of the world's first superhero. I hold out hope that this could be the first of a continuing story that will further the story of The Makers and the nanites.The story is okay and it really is a fun read, but once Ivan transforms, fun, unexplored opportunities open up that left me wanting. Maybe Taylor will see the same wide-open storyline and take advantage.
this was a pretty good read, character development was spot on and you actually felt like the various characters were more than one dimensional stereotypes. even the "bad guys" had plausible explanations for their behaviors. the transformation of the main guy seemed to be a plausible progression without having everything thrown at the main character at once. no where near as funny as his bobiverse saga but I don't regret my purchase.
