This book is really good, but I should have listened to the previous comment about the KINDLE VERSION being difficult to read. The footnotes are not accessible and where pictures should be it just says "can't put photo" or something. I bought this one week ago exactly and it will not let me return it. I wish I could return it and get the hard copy, it is really a good book but I do not enjoy reading it on the kindle because I feel like I am missing a lot and that is no fun.

Such chilling words which began, and subsequently made known, the brutal and unspeakable crimes of the Manson Murders. Vincent Bugliosi's account of the murders and "The Family" was well written and very detailed. His book presented a wealth of interesting information that you never hear about in any television documentary. By reading Mr. Bugliosi's captivating book, the reader, not only gets a better understanding of murders and the crazy, insane motive behind them, but a better understanding of all the people, good and bad, that were involved. It's fascinating to read about all the hard work Mr. Bugliosi put into the Tate - LaBianca investigation which allowed him to successfully obtain death penalty convictions of Charles Manson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, Leslie Van Houton, and a few years later, Charles "Tex" Watson. The Manson Murders were terrible, tragic event and it utimately became Mr. Bugliosi's story, which was again, wonderfully told by him. I can see why it is considered the best crime book ever written. I highly recommend this book. :)

This is one of those books I like to re-read. No, I am not a Manson follower. It's not the person but the process of the trial of some of the most diabolical people in the 60's. I pick up on parts that I had forgotten or may of missed. The author is very specific on details as a lawyer should be. There are parts that drag of which could have been shorter but heck the book has been in 40 years. A good read and highly recommended it.

Amazingly enough (especially considering my interest in the macabre), I had never before picked up this classic true crime account of the Manson Murders. I’m pleased to say that I have rectified that deficiency, and that I was not disappointed in the least.Bugliosi (who was also the lead prosecutor of Manson and his co-defendants) begins the 600+ page book with the Tate murders themselves. We follow the housekeeper as she enters the property to begin her day, the trauma of the bodies being discovered, and the movements of the police who first entered the scene. We are next led along to the LaBianca murder scene (the murder of an elderly couple also committed by Manson’s “Family”). From these two bloodbaths, Bugliosi takes the reader along through the (occasionally horribly bungled) police investigation, letting us walk along with investigators as they try to make sense of such seemingly senseless killings. As I said earlier, Bugliosi was the lead prosecutor of the case (and occasional investigator). This is certainly in evidence as Bugliosi approaches “Helter Skelter” like a trial in and of itself. Physical evidence, witness statements, and paper trails are carefully presented and thoroughly dissected for the reader. The sheer weight of evidence eventually brought together against Manson and his family is presented here in largely chronological order, and shows just how completely Bugliosi throws himself into his work. There is a good reason why Helter Skelter is considered one of the best true crime books written (easily up there with Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood). So, grab this book and read it. For such a hefty tome, it goes by very quickly. Bugliosi’s style is intense, but highly readable. Any one who is interested in true crime will obviously love this book, but even if that isn’t your usual genre, this is a compelling read about a charismatic madman and the incredible influence he had, not only on his followers, but on the country as a whole.

Vincent Bugliosi said it best, “… The singularity of Manson’s evil and the particular brand of demonic murders he authored have not again been inflicted upon our nation. We can only hope that the ensuing years will be the same.” He wrote those words in June 1994. It appears in the afterword of the currently available version of “Helter Skelter”.We continue as a society to be fascinated by the actions of Charles Manson and his followers, who are collectively known as ‘The Family’. And who better to tell that story than prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi himself? Although Vincent himself has passed away, his story lives on. In my humble opinion, works like “helter-skelter” are absolutely important to the future of society as a whole. As my mother would say, those who failed to observe the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. Although, I’m sure she took that quote from someone else.Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecutor in the Manson trial, does an excellent job laying out for the reader all of the important elements of the crime, the prosecution, and the defense’s actions during that famous trial. You cannot separate an understanding of Charles Manson and an understanding of the trial. The two are inseparable. The vivid descriptions of the witnesses, crime scenes, evidence, and the courtroom drama served to encapsulate one of the longest and most expensive trials to ever take place in US history.I would argue that without Mr. Bugliosi’s book, a gaping hole in the recollections and recounting of the Manson trial would exist. We would also lose a haunting look at the mind of a madman and those who would unquestioningly follow him.Truth in advertising, I’m an author who writes about serial killers. Because of this, the studies of the most infamous killers of the world is an important aspect of what I do. No serious study of violent crime in the US would be complete without looking at Charles Manson and The Family. They say that time heals all wounds. However, I don’t think the nation ever completely recovered from the wounds inflicted by Charles Manson and his followers. We still seem to be just as fascinated today with what happened on those two days back in 1969 as the nation was during the time of the trial. I’m not sure if that’s a testament to our love of the macabre or fascination with courtroom drama. For anyone interested in Charles Manson and the events surrounding the Tate and LaBianca murders, “Helter Skelter” is a must-read. I found it to be well-written and chock full of detail that no movie could ever quite cover as well is Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry did.

This book contains a lot of really useful information, including not only calling, decoying, and stalking, as the subtitle says, but also contains contact information for guide services, game regulations, and more, for both Canadian and Alaska destinations. It includes numerous hunting scenarios, and tips on how you could employ different tactics to outsmart Bullwinkle! Peter Fiduccia is also a well-known and respected deer hunter and host of the TV show Woods N' Water. My only complaint would be there are only four pages of color photos. The rest of the book contains other photos that are black-and-white, but some are not very clear. Other than that, the information in the book is very good.

This is a great introduction to moose hunting, particularly in the northeast but with enough insight into general moose behavior to be recommended to any moose hunter. Easy, fast read, and informative.

Book gives good insight into moose hunting. It reads well and gives behavior of moose both in the wild and in captivity. Last chapter is a tribute to a friend, I assume, and not to relevant to the rest of the book.

Informative I have brosed though the book hoping to get some information for a up coming moose hunt. It talked of Maine an Newfoundland .the later I planned to go to. Book has good info.

Written by hunters and for hunters.Best in Class!

Good book to get the basics of moose hunting, though it's mostly focused on hunting in the Northeast US and Canada. For hunting outside of that area (as I was doing in Montana), it's best use is for getting familiar with calling techniques and general strategy of Moose hunting.

Other than them spelling my name wrong on my pic of my Newfie bull, it's a great read!!!!!

I used what I learned in this book to help take a Boone and Crockett Shiras moose in my home state of Wyoming.

I'm a developer and DBA who had not written PL/SQL in over a year. I used this book as a refresher. This is the "Learning Perl" of PL/SQL, meaning: a beginner can learn from it, and an experienced hack can use it as a reference.I consider lots of good sample code to be important when learning a programming language. Here it is, as a series of labs, with intelligent discussion. It's like having a friend who's an expert act as a personal tutor. It has complete, well-rounded coverage of PL/SQL fundamentals: control structures, stored procedures, packages, and a good chapter on triggers. In rare cases where some keyword is introduced with no explanation, it's usually covered in the following section. It is nearly the quality of Oracle course materials, but with (a tolerable amount of) typos. Annoyingly, some of the typos are incorrect answers in the appendix; the rest are obvious typos and therefore not too confusing.Chapter 1 is deceptively basic, explaining what a program is, what a programming language is, etc., but chapter 2 jumps right into PL/SQL with no further ado. The book progresses in baby steps as far as PL/SQL is concerned. Although knowledge of SQL is assumed, some concepts like commit & rollback, savepoints, and sequences are introduced and explained for beginners. It is also assumed that the reader:- knows what DML, DDL, and the DUAL table are;- has an account that can create objects (the "Scott" demo account will do); and- knows how to connect to the database with SQL*Plus or a development tool (IDE).With an IDE I was able to work through it in about thirty hours. I just read chapters I was already strong in without working those labs, but that time included plenty of puttering and experimenting with the lab material I did work.I also bought 10g "PL/SQL Programming" by Urman, et. al. but dove into this book first. The two books overlap. The freely available "PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference" from Oracle is still a must-have.Densely packed with pertinent information and very little else, it's about 99% useful information. Like the blurb says, "Just the facts." It is a complete Oracle course, so it was worth $2400 in that respect.

Well, I know it's not nice to say so, but this title is not as good as the "cousin" titleOracle SQL By Example (4th Edition)Why? Well, it shares with it the hands on learn by example strategy, the clarity, the start from square one and go step by step style, an abundance of solved exercises which makes it an excellent learning tool for beginners, but it stops short of giving you a solid foundation in the more advanced and complex real life scenarios. To be fair, it must be said that PL/SQL is obviously a deeper and more complex subject to teach than just plain SQL, so it might be close to impossible to produce a text that can be both an outstanding introducion and a guide for more real life situations.. So I guess the best you can do if you 're new to PL/SQL or have used it a little in the past but need a refresher is to read this book first and then go on with more specialized text in the developement or system administration areas, depending on your needs. It's also a great resource if you' re teaching an intro class on PL/SQL and need material or just inspiration..

I'm a really big fan of the Oracle Series books and often wonder why other book authors do not take the same approach. I purchased the 1st editions of Oracle SQL and Oracle PL/SQL back in the day and read both of them. I really loved the format of these books and so I purchased the 3rd edition. They have helped me in passing the SQL and PL/SQL test for the Oracle certification. I just purchased the 3rd edition and really appreciate the fact that they expand on details and have fixed most of the typos from the previous editions. The format of the book is that you read a little and do hands-on activities afterward. This book is probably the best book you could ever buy for yourself because you truly learn PL/SQL. The hands-on labs reinforce the information very well and it's also a great reference tool. This book is definately a must buy for any person wishing to become an Oracle Developer or Oracle DBA. This book will provide you the foundations for your career. THis is the same book they use for the students at Columbia University in New York City.

The book provides very solid foundation of PL\SQL. It wisely covers the basics and repeats them in a format which isn't too redundant. For example, there are several chapters on Loops (simple, cursor, while, nested etc). This makes sense since loops are extremely important part of PL\SQL. The PL\SQL code examples are very well thought out and the test questions are very thought provoking. The book does not cover advanced topics such as temporary global tables and performance tuning PL\SQL code, but that is beyond the scope of this book anyhow.Suprisingly, I thought the chapter on stored procedures was very weak. It was almost nonexistent. The book spends almost 3 times as much text on Triggers than on stored procedures. This was a mistake since triggers are rarely used because of its performance constraints. Stored procedures, on the other hand, are the bread and butter of PL\SQL.

If you go through this book and still have questions, you might have been reading it diagonally. All jokes aside, the tons of examples is just what you need. Rather than words, they actually show you working examples with quizzes. try it yourself.

Exactly what I wanted. Good buying experience. On time delivery. No issues. Very much satisfied.

I agree this is the number one book on Oracle in the field. Howeverthe only shortcoming is that I wish there were more colorful andrepresentative diagrams. However I would say to definitely get this book.

While the book appears comprehensive, it is not designed for beginners. If you are a PL SQL user who has only select proviledges, you need more in-depth examples of how to construct complex nested queries in order to obtain your data analysis objective. This is a good book for more advanced users who have total access to all levels of SQL resources.

"Coco couldn't afford to dress like the corseted ladies of high society and she was never going to be shapely. There was no point in trying to be like them. Instead, she tried to be different." Like Kathryn Lasky's Vision of Beauty (Candlewick, 2000), this imaginative tale should be shared with every child who thinks Jane O'Connor's Fancy Nancy (HarperCollins, 2005) is the epitome of high fashion. The story is accompanied, appropriately, by elegant pen-and-ink and watercolor cartoons that capture her struggles as a young woman, as well as her innate sense of style. From Booklist

As it turns out, Coco Chanel is a terrific subject for a picture-book biography. A poor, skinny orphan, she brightened her colorless convent childhood by sewing dresses for her dolls. She also dreamed big dreams. Once she was on her own, she turned her tailoring talent into a career as a dress designer. Coco, who was sticklike rather than shapely, designed dresses for figures like hers. Soon, her clothes were being snapped up, and thanks to her enigmatic personality and sense of style, she became a celebrity. Matthews' writing style is right on the mark, as breezy and appealing as Coco herself. Wisely, the author frontloads the book with stories of Coco's disadvantaged youth, which have immediate pull for readers. It's too bad that the pictures don't measure up to the writing. Although often amusing, and occasionally moving, they never capture Coco's elegance. Moreover, all the characters have snoutlike noses that are seriously distracting. Despite that, this rags-to-much-nicer-rags story is well worth reading. Ilene CooperCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved

Very fun book purchased by me a 53 year old that ran across this book and another similar by accident. I had to have it for me! Yes, I'm 53, but the books are lovely and I have my two new books in a spare room that is decorated for a little girl. My husband thought I was crazy, but this and Piggy Goes to Prada are just lovely and I read them both!

I was really looking forward to receiving this book. I worked in the fashion industry designing dresses and fashion has always been part of my life and now that I have three daughters we share this passion. I was so excited about this book in fact, that I ordered two. One for my daughter's best friend. We got the book and all was good until we got to the page about lying. It states, "...she rarely told the truth. She constantly rearranged and romanticised the facts of her life story. She would even tell lies in confession!" I get it.. She was from very humble beginnings that she would make up her life. But in a book for little girls called "Different like Coco," is lying a good trait to have to be different? I find the word lying very negative and bad portrayal of character. I wish the author had worded this differently. She could have said that Coco was always embellishing her truth because she wanted more and she was a dreamer... or could have omitted the sentence of "rarely told the truth" and the one about "lying." Lying is a serious issue not something kids should strive for in trying to be different. Just look at what happened to Ryan Lochte. It does not matter if you have gold medals lying will not get you far. So yes.. I have a big issue with this book and I am wondering if to return, tear page apart or white it out. I do not recommend.

I love the illustration but the story is definitely not for a kid...or even a teenager. It says in several pages that Coco was thin and she would make clothes for slender women. Okay, that might be true in the fashion world but do we want to stick these ideas in a child's mind to be thin in order to look good or fit into fancy clothes? There are better books out there for children. I'll just keep this one for myself since I like Chanel and ill just give it to my daughter when she's old enough to understand that body image is not important. Slender or voluptuous does not define anyone. Also, it gives an image of Chanel asking her lover for money so she can open her boutique - it happened, I saw the movie, but come one! It's a childrens book!

Love the book. I had this book, so I bought one for my friend’s birthday.

Great for any Coco fan

Wow! Quite a story.

As a long time Chanel fan, I got this book for my 9 year old niece and she loved it! Even though she is only 9, she enjoyed the story line of a little orphan girl who ended up being rich and famous. At first I thought the book would be to difficult for her to follow, but it really wasn't. It told Coco's life story very appropriately for girls her age. The illustrations on this book are really cute! I know that one day my niece will one day love everything Chanel just like the women in her family!

My girlfriend loved this book as part of a Christmas present. She is a big fan of Coco!

I love this book!! The cover is this fantastic soft paper over the hard cover and inside is told the life story of Coco Chanel in a colorful and liberating way. I read it and then read it again and made my mother read it. Enjoy the read.
