Mini Pies: Adorable and Delicious Recipes for...This is an adorable recipe book for pies. I wasn't expecting the book to be so small in size; but that is ok since I love to cook and Bake. I was a4-H leader for 25 years in baking and other subjects. I loved the baking the best and one of the last five years I taught baking I had a 9 yearold girl that I taught how to make mini pies. That year I taught her to make mango mini pies and she got Grand Champion at local fair and Grand Champion at state fair. The year before I taught her how to make muffins when she was 8 and got grand champion at local fair and 4th at state fair.This package came on time and the book has some really good recipes that I will try. I wouldn't hesitate buying this recipe book for a young girl oryoung bride or anyone that would like to learn how to make pies.
Don't waste your money on this book. I should have returned it. We haven't found one thing in it we want to make. If you are making mini pies just use a regular recipe and divide it into small pie dishes or muffin cups.....you will save some money and you will be using a recipe you will enjoy.
I purchased this in order to continue enjoying food I love without all the calories of a huge piece. Seldom do I buy a book that I enjoy it from beginning to end but I certainly experienced that with this book. My favorite part of the book is the chapter about making pies that you can freeze until needed in those little 1/2 pint mason jars - I have tons of those! I can make all the apple pies for Thanksgiving early this year. I just couldn't ask for a better book!!
THIS BOOK IS SMALL (in size), it is the size of my hand! When it said "mini" pies I thought it meant just the size of pies not the size of the book! Don't blink you will miss it!I am glad I didn't spend the retail price on this book, not worth it! But I wish I would have spent less than the $10.17 on it!!!The pies are ok, nothing special or new. There are other things in there besides pies too. Like whip cream (if you for some reason don't know how to make it). Would I buy it again, probably not. This book is visually appealing, and the recipes are tantalizing! I am happy to see a recipe for GLUTEN-FREE and a VEGAN crust as well!I got a mini pie maker for Christmas (like the baby cakes ones) BEFORE I got this book. Now I feel like "why bother" with the mini pie maker, and just do 12 at a time in my muffin tins!
I bought the mini pie maker from William Sonoma and wanted some recipes to use. I found this book to be a good source for large selection of mini creations. The quick and easy directions are exciting. I never thought serving people mini pies would be so much fun.
I enjoyed quite a few of the filling recipes, and I greatly appreciated the attention to dietary needs or preferences, especially the crusts. They have both a gluten-free and a vegan pie crust, along with several others, which is very thoughtful of them. They also have many good recipes. I really liked the idea of baking into a mason jar, which is nice to take along with you. I've not tried the Dirty Chai yet, but it's on my list!However, I should point out that many recipes call for soy milk instead of cow's milk. If you are new to baking, you won't know that they can be substituted or in what amount, and the book does not tell you. Neither is the soy milk focus mentioned in the blurbs or descriptions about the book, so you don't know until you read the recipe. If you know what you're doing, there's not a problem. But newbies or people without dietary concerns likely will not know that, and passing that information should be on the authors.
