This is a highly readable, well thought through exposition of the problems of getting older, of loosing your mobility.I was really impressed by the notion of "declining to decline," and what that meant in practical terms. It talks about these problems from the perspective of both lived anecdote and theory, from the a Jewish woman who can respond positively to the "feeling of Christmas." Gallops later criticism--from anecdotal theory on--speaks to me in ways I enjoy as much as her her early expositions gathered in "the perloined Poe." Get this book and read it.
