I'm a developer and DBA who had not written PL/SQL in over a year. I used this book as a refresher.This is the "Learning Perl" of PL/SQL, meaning: a beginner can learn from it, and an experienced hack can use it as a reference.I consider lots of good sample code to be important when learning a programming language. Here it is, as a series of labs, with intelligent discussion. It's like having a friend who's an expert act as a personal tutor. It has complete, well-rounded coverage of PL/SQL fundamentals: control structures, stored procedures, packages, and a good chapter on triggers. In rare cases where some keyword is introduced with no explanation, it's usually covered in the following section.It is nearly the quality of Oracle course materials, but with (a tolerable amount of) typos. Annoyingly, some of the typos are incorrect answers in the appendix; the rest are obvious typos and therefore not too confusing.Chapter 1 is deceptively basic, explaining what a program is, what a programming language is, etc., but chapter 2 jumps right into PL/SQL with no further ado. The book progresses in baby steps as far as PL/SQL is concerned. Although knowledge of SQL is assumed, some concepts like commit & rollback, savepoints, and sequences are introduced and explained for beginners. It is also assumed that the reader:- knows what DML, DDL, and the DUAL table are;- has an account that can create objects (the "Scott" demo account will do); and- knows how to connect to the database with SQL*Plus or a development tool (IDE).With an IDE I was able to work through it in about thirty hours. I just read chapters I was already strong in without working those labs, but that time included plenty of puttering and experimenting with the lab material I did work.I also bought 10g "PL/SQL Programming" by Urman, et. al. but dove into this book first. The two books overlap. The freely available "PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference" from Oracle is still a must-have.Densely packed with pertinent information and very little else, it's about 99% useful information. Like the blurb says, "Just the facts." It is a complete Oracle course, so it was worth $2400 in that respect.

Well, I know it's not nice to say so, but this title is not as good as the "cousin" titleOracle SQL By Example (4th Edition)Why? Well, it shares with it the hands on learn by example strategy, the clarity, the start from square one and go step by step style, an abundance of solved exercises which makes it an excellent learning tool for beginners, but it stops short of giving you a solid foundation in the more advanced and complex real life scenarios. To be fair, it must be said that PL/SQL is obviously a deeper and more complex subject to teach than just plain SQL, so it might be close to impossible to produce a text that can be both an outstanding introducion and a guide for more real life situations.. So I guess the best you can do if you 're new to PL/SQL or have used it a little in the past but need a refresher is to read this book first and then go on with more specialized text in the developement or system administration areas, depending on your needs.It's also a great resource if you' re teaching an intro class on PL/SQL and need material or just inspiration..

I'm a really big fan of the Oracle Series books and often wonder why other book authors do not take the same approach. I purchased the 1st editions of Oracle SQL and Oracle PL/SQL back in the day and read both of them. I really loved the format of these books and so I purchased the 3rd edition. They have helped me in passing the SQL and PL/SQL test for the Oracle certification. I just purchased the 3rd edition and really appreciate the fact that they expand on details and have fixed most of the typos from the previous editions. The format of the book is that you read a little and do hands-on activities afterward. This book is probably the best book you could ever buy for yourself because you truly learn PL/SQL. The hands-on labs reinforce the information very well and it's also a great reference tool. This book is definately a must buy for any person wishing to become an Oracle Developer or Oracle DBA. This book will provide you the foundations for your career. THis is the same book they use for the students at Columbia University in New York City.

The book provides very solid foundation of PL\SQL. It wisely covers the basics and repeats them in a format which isn't too redundant. For example, there are several chapters on Loops (simple, cursor, while, nested etc). This makes sense since loops are extremely important part of PL\SQL. The PL\SQL code examples are very well thought out and the test questions are very thought provoking.The book does not cover advanced topics such as temporary global tables and performance tuning PL\SQL code, but that is beyond the scope of this book anyhow.Suprisingly, I thought the chapter on stored procedures was very weak. It was almost nonexistent. The book spends almost 3 times as much text on Triggers than on stored procedures. This was a mistake since triggers are rarely used because of its performance constraints. Stored procedures, on the other hand, are the bread and butter of PL\SQL.

If you go through this book and still have questions, you might have been reading it diagonally. All jokes aside, the tons of examples is just what you need. Rather than words, they actually show you working examples with quizzes. try it yourself.

Exactly what I wanted. Good buying experience. On time delivery. No issues. Very much satisfied.

I agree this is the number one book on Oracle in the field. Howeverthe only shortcoming is that I wish there were more colorful andrepresentative diagrams. However I would say to definitely get this book.

While the book appears comprehensive, it is not designed for beginners. If you are a PL SQL user who has only select proviledges, you need more in-depth examples of how to construct complex nested queries in order to obtain your data analysis objective.This is a good book for more advanced users who have total access to all levels of SQL resources.

Although often amusing, and occasionally moving, they never capture Coco's elegance. Moreover, all the characters have snoutlike noses that are seriously distracting. Very fun book purchased by me a 53 year old that ran across this book and another similar by accident. I had to have it for me! Yes, I'm 53, but the books are lovely and I have my two new books in a spare room that is decorated for a little girl. My husband thought I was crazy, but this and Piggy Goes to Prada are just lovely and I read them both!

I was really looking forward to receiving this book. I worked in the fashion industry designing dresses and fashion has always been part of my life and now that I have three daughters we share this passion. I was so excited about this book in fact, that I ordered two. One for my daughter's best friend. We got the book and all was good until we got to the page about lying. It states, "...she rarely told the truth. She constantly rearranged and romanticised the facts of her life story. She would even tell lies in confession!" I get it.. She was from very humble beginnings that she would make up her life. But in a book for little girls called "Different like Coco," is lying a good trait to have to be different? I find the word lying very negative and bad portrayal of character. I wish the author had worded this differently. She could have said that Coco was always embellishing her truth because she wanted more and she was a dreamer... or could have omitted the sentence of "rarely told the truth" and the one about "lying." Lying is a serious issue not something kids should strive for in trying to be different. Just look at what happened to Ryan Lochte. It does not matter if you have gold medals lying will not get you far. So yes.. I have a big issue with this book and I am wondering if to return, tear page apart or white it out. I do not recommend.

I love the illustration but the story is definitely not for a kid...or even a teenager. It says in several pages that Coco was thin and she would make clothes for slender women. Okay, that might be true in the fashion world but do we want to stick these ideas in a child's mind to be thin in order to look good or fit into fancy clothes?There are better books out there for children. I'll just keep this one for myself since I like Chanel and ill just give it to my daughter when she's old enough to understand that body image is not important. Slender or voluptuous does not define anyone.Also, it gives an image of Chanel asking her lover for money so she can open her boutique - it happened, I saw the movie, but come one! It's a childrens book!

Wow! Quite a story.

As a long time Chanel fan, I got this book for my 9 year old niece and she loved it! Even though she is only 9, she enjoyed the story line of a little orphan girl who ended up being rich and famous. At first I thought the book would be to difficult for her to follow, but it really wasn't. It told Coco's life story very appropriately for girls her age. The illustrations on this book are really cute! I know that one day my niece will one day love everything Chanel just like the women in her family!

My girlfriend loved this book as part of a Christmas present. She is a big fan of Coco!

I love this book!! The cover is this fantastic soft paper over the hard cover and inside is told the life story of Coco Chanel in a colorful and liberating way. I read it and then read it again and made my mother read it. Enjoy the read.

As an emergency physician I read this book with dismay, if too many of you take its advice, it will drastically decrease my income! In all seriousness, if you have been frustrated by all the diet / health advice books out there - look no further - this one truly puts it all together! Dr. Masley does a masterful job of explaining why most of us aren't really very healthy and then plots out a reasonable, entirely doable program to remedy that. Weaving in fascinating vignettes from his patients and family, he artfully explains the rapidly evolving science of staying healthy.Most similar books advocate changes in diet so radical, that they are absurd and patently unrealistic - not this one! It explains in plenty of detail how to reasonably modify our diets in order to have marked effects on those diseases that rob us of our health and vitality. In addition to his dietary counsel, Dr. Masley wisely includes practical advice on how to exercise efficiently, de-stress our minds, and improve our sex lives.Although I already consider myself pretty healthy and knowledgeable about the medical field, I was thrilled to learn so much more from this one book. It will definitely change not only my diet, but my approach to life!

I bought this book after my boyfriend had a heart attack. His Cardiologist took him off cigarettes, red meat and put him on a healthier diet and prescribed medicines to help his heart recover. Because I wanted to help him as well, I purchased this book.It is a lifesaver for him and for me. The information in this book was a huge help for my boyfriend and myself. It was like having a caring Doctor advising us about heart health.Now, my honey is feeling better, I take his Blood pressure everyday and it is a healthy 105/70 (it was 180/90). Pulse is now 60 to 70 (it was 95). So we are delighted with his improvement.The recipes are very delicious and just what we were looking for and they are heart healthy.If you are a heart patient or just want to make sure you heart is as healthy as possible, then I suggest that you buy this book.We are both glad to have found this helpful book.5 stars, highly recommend this book!!!!

I've begun this program and am beginning to notice positive changes, ... less achiness in the A.M., longer lasting energy and headaches are less intense. These early results are great motivators to continue... Thanks, Dr Masley**Update 2 months down the road and the improvements continue...2 inch. waist loss...now my formerly tight pants are loose! These "tune-up" suggested dietary and lifestyle changes are fast becoming habits and it's all been relatively easy for me. I will give future updates as it's warranted

I had bought this book to see if we could get my husband off of the High Blood Pressure meds that our family doctor put him on. The book is really terrific. I like alternative and natural ways better than pharmaceuticals. The book was written by a board certified MD who really seems to know about nutrition and especially the tests that should be ordered and others that are outdated to test heart functions/arteries. My husband I are pretty good cooks and somewhat foodies. Was surprised to see the 60 great recipes included in the back of the book that were so imaginative and nutritious. Turns out the doctor also took lessons at a Culinary Institute, can't remember if he got a degree from them or just took lessons. Regardless, good recipes.Also, liked that the book was endorsed by David Perlmutter, MD of Grain Brain, whom I also like. So, this was a win-win for us. Board Certified Traditionally Trained Physician and a Fellow of the American Heart Association who believes in healing by nutrition! This way, I can have our family physician order some of the tests recommended by him (which BTW, our doctor had already ordered the more common and not as useful tests (which cost more!!!) and hopefully he will go with the recommendations because of his credentials.

When I ordered this book in June of 2014, I weighed 210 pounds. I'm 59 years old my blood pressure was climbing and I was having difficulty breathing. I thought it was asmatha. The book is a very easy read and the life style changes are simple and painless. My cholesterol has gone from a total of 179 to 150. My blood pressure is 120 over 70 and I now weigh 165 pounds and feel like I did in my 40's. I recommend this to everyone. It is life changing.

I ordered the book after seeing Dr. Masley on PBS and it has turned out to be the most enlightening and practical self-help book I have read in my life. I always worked out regularly and ate healthy (or so I thought) but around 6 years ago when I turned 50 my weight and blood pressure began to rise. I started Dr. Masley's program in Jan 2015 and within 5 months I dropped from 225 to 193 lbs (I am 6 ft tall) also, my blood pressure dropped from pre hypertension to normal. I have always performed all the cooking for my family and with his cookbook I never go hungry.

I consider Dr Masley (MD) to be very knowledgeable and helpful regard heart health. Matter of fact this book is changing my life for the better. It not only addresses heart health but also so many aspects and solutions to a persons health. I was able to understand things my doctors never told me or helped me with. If I had only one book of complete health, this would be it. His recommendations on food are tasty and healthy.PS My only regret, is I wish I would have known about him years ago. That said it is never too late.

An excellent read for those who care about their health. I learned more from this book than 24 sessions of cardiac rehab. I also lost a bunch of weight just eating the kinds of foods recommended without counting calories or starving myself. It's a pity I didn't read it before having cardiovascular disease, but at least I feel great. The book can be easily understood without a medical or health care background but still provides a wealth of information - more than you will get from your doctor or rehab staff. The only thing I question is the title because nothing happens in 30 days. This is all about lifestyle change.

What I really like about this book is that you get a compilation of articles from a number of different authors, that is something I always enjoy. We started in 8th grade with my daughter dealing seriously with the issues this book addresses and this is going on our list for 10th grade. Because the sections are shorter, its a great book to come back to if you don't finish it all at once. Some of my favorite Creation World View authors! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to increase understanding about competing world views, but would say highschool for homeschool.

This is such an important topic. This book does a wonderful job at first explaining evolution and bits of how we got the belief even within the church. It has scripture to back up truth throughout. Highly recommend this book.

Obviously this can be a controversial book. I totally get it- for multiple generations, we've been taught Darwinism by our school systems and textbooks, and few challenged it, just said " oh it's contrary to the bible", but it's science, and left it unlevelled. Ken Ham has been one of the brave, going boldly into that void and saying "wait a minute, where is the EVIDENCE for what you are teaching everyone?". And suddenly the holes are exposed and now we are left to wonder, and stammer in our arguments. And that is what this book is for!This book is perfect for high school students, who have been exposed to the evolution theory already in schools, as it gives them the evidence they need to make a educated decision on the idea of evolution, while bringing in bible study as well. So it can be a valuable homeschool resource for high schoolers, and a resource for parents, who are teaching elementary level, to see how to handle the evolution theory in science class!The book is actually a compilation of different essays pertaining to the topic at hand. I actually prefer this, as it allows the reader/student to understand it is not just Ken Ham or Brodie Hodge saying things about evolution- it is other educated people, Doctors and lay people alike. It starts off with a look at how the evolution theory is accepted at modern churches, and then takes the reader through the theory itself,and exposes the holes, and more importantly offers the reasons WHY the theory has just been accepted, even though if it were any other scientific theory, it would have been debunked because of the issues it has. And that is the core issue-why if there is no solid evidence to support them, why are the evolution theories taken as fact? Science is supposed to be about fact, so why do natural evolutionists base their theories on blind faith, while telling Christians that their faith in the bible is wrong. It's the same. BUT as we learn (it seems literally every week anymore), more and more evidence keeps coming out to support biblical events, so why isn't the biblical view taught alongside evolution, at least? Once you start reading this book, you might not be able to put it down. There may be quite a few surprises inside! But I can guarantee that when finished you will have a sound education on evolution versus worldview, and be able to debunk any argument thrown at you!If you're Christian, you MUST read this book! If you homeschool, it should be required reading for teaching science! We highly recommend it!

Paul Schwartz is a sportswriter for the New York Post, where he has covered the New York Giants since 1994. He is an honors graduate of the University at Albany. As a lifelong Giants fan, someone could write "I love the Giants" over and over again on a page, chalkboard-punishment-style, and I'd probably eat it up, but this book really does bring to light many great stories, especially to younger fans, (somewhat) like myself, who only know of Frank Gifford, Y.A. Tittle, and Sam Huff from the grainy footage in NFL Films productions (miss ya Steve).In my view, to truly love a team is to understand its current players in the context of past teams great and not-so-great (see the chapters on the '70s for the latter), and this book allows fans of all ages to gain that historical perspective, with amusing anecdotes that really convey the personalities of the players, coaches, and owners. Definitely recommend to any who "bleed blue." Go G-men!

Tales from the New York Giants Sideline provides the professional football and Giants fan very little. It is poorly organized, provides absolutely no insight into the team, its history, and its championship seasons. Even more disappointing, given that the book is based on interviews with many past and present players and coaches, it gives little insight into the personalities that have given this franchise a unique and deep history. In short, it is a total failure.The book is divided into six chapters: Training Camp, The Season, The Founder, The Coaches, The Teammates, and The Championships. None of the chapters provide great insight on the given topic. Further, the organization of the book provides no chronological continuity as it jumps all over the place in time and era. Essentially what this book consists of are very short vignettes, in fact vignettes isn't even the right word, short snippets, that give a little nugget of information about the team and players. It's basically a little collection of quotes and comments about the chapter topics.The players, coaches, and owners that get the most air time, so to speak, are Wellington Mara, Sam Huff, Y.A. Tittle, Frank Gifford, Phil Simms, and Bill Parcels. Of course other players and events are touched upon, but not in any meaningful way. Yes, Lawrence Taylor is in here, but mostly only in embarrassing situations.Very unfortunately is that there is a little bit, but not nearly enough, about some of the most important events in Giants history. Want to know a little bit about one of the seminal games in NFL History, the 1958 NFL Championship between the Giants and Baltimore Colts (the first overtime game in NFL history)? You won't get much here. Want to know about the Giants' Super Bowl years? You won't get a lot here except a few quotes and comments. In short, you don't get much at all with this book.Thus, I would not recommend this book to a football fan or Giants fan. There is just not enough information or good storytelling here to make this book worthwhile. It is a quick and easy read, but even casual Giants' fans are not likely to learn anything particularly new or worthwhile.The author of this book has covered the New York Giants for the New York Post since 1994. The Giants have had mostly mediocre results during this time frame, this book is less than mediocre.

While it is interesting to know about the history of the team, and the stories of old coaches and players, I thought it lacked more info regarding the players of this generation.

Great quotes from the players themselves. Brief and to the point as each topic flowed to the next. Good read.

I thought this book was good for what it was. Is it a historical retrospective of the NY Giants? NO. You're not going to get that for $15, and shouldn't expect it. This is simply short, anectodal stories of various Giant personnel over the years. Each one is only a page or two in length, so it's a book you can pick up and put down, and not have to worry about remembering where you were. I'd recommend it for any Giants fan.

I'm not a Young Adult but got this because it was an Edgar Winner. I'm no longer using that as a serious criteria. Not a bad little book but I suspected the murderer early on and wasn't sympathetic to the young protagonist who did not seem worthy of becoming a Samurai. The feudal setting in Japan was of interest and it's a quick read. I gave it to my young teen great-nephew of the video game generation and I'm eager to learn if he actually reads it and, if so, his thoughts.

My 7th grade students used this book to supplement our reading of the first novel in the series, The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn. The Hooblers did a great job creating characters that help readers understand the world of medieval Japan. We even contacted the Hooblers to ask some questions about the books, and they graciously responded.

In this story, the main character is a samurai in training, but learns that the way of the ninja has its own set of honor. This leads to him understanding that honor is based on the man and not what his title or class is.

Just like the other books in the series In Darkness, Death is a must read! I use the Hoobler's Samurai Series in my 7th grade classroom to teach ancient Japanese culture. The books are highly entertaining while being also highly educational. I recommend them for public, private, and home-schools.

This is the book that got me interested in historic Japanese culture as a backdrop for detective novels. Really good read. This book arrived as described and it was well worth the purchase price.

I don't know, I just like these books. Seikei is smart but is humble and learns from his mistakes. I like the Judge Ooka character as well.

My grandson liked how the story was told, the ninja characters and Seikei, the main character. It helped him understand and enjoy Asian culture.

Though Tatsuno could have abandoned Seikei numerous times, we find that Tatsuno follows a strict code of honor of his own. I enjoyed learning about Tatsuno and the lives of ninjas during the 1700s, their relationship to the monks and to the local farmers.This adventure shared the wonderful balance of action and insight into Seikei's personality. His slow realization of the plight of the farmers, the power of the daiymo and the role of the Shogun and his officials was sad but very interesting. The dilemmas that he faced added further depth to fourteen year old Seikei's character.

I feel that I might be a bit biased considering I am a big fan of Ethan's art work. I actually own a few prints by him and hope to continue to grow my collection. This being said, I have had his book on pre-order since the day it was available and I was super excited when the ARC arrived on my door step.The ARC is in black and white, which doesn’t let me see the novel in its full and magical glory - even though I've seen it on tumblr and his Patreon.What's nice about this middle grade graphic novel is that it teaches the importance of families. The ones we are raised in and the ones we chose. Through the story, Edmund and the Childe bring up what it means to be part of a family, and who really belongs to the human family. The Childe, who never really had that experience or relationship, learns that it means more than being born to someone - and honestly it is beautiful.The most majestic and unique part of this novel is that it’s 95% done with traditional water color illustrations. In a world where everything is digitized and on photoshop this little book is odd but perfect. Aldridge's art reminds me a lot of E. H. Shepard's Winnie the Pooh art style with the thick ink strokes and beautiful colors.It's truly modernized nostalgia filled with magic.I really don't want to spoil too much of the story, because it's wonderful and I want the whole world to read it. What you really need to know is that it is a fantasy story filled with changelings, golems, witches, sibling love, trolls, evil aunts, rats, fights and a DRAGON.I look forward to reading it again in its full color glory. I also look forward to the second book - since there are so many loose ends that need solving!

The beautiful cover artwork drew my eye to this graphic novel. I actually got it for my 11 year old son for Christmas since he loves fantasy graphic novels. We both thought it was okay but not great.The story is a pretty basic one about two boys (one faerie and one human) who are swapped at birth. As events unfold the human child is forced to seek out his human family displacing the faerie brother who has been living with them all these years.While there are good themes about the meaning of family and friendship, the story is pretty basic.The illustration was easy enough to follow but wasn’t my favorite style. It has a very “sketched” look to it and the colors are washed out. The effect was very unfinished looking artwork that seemed a bit weak to me.Overall this was a decent fantasy graphic novel. The story is pretty basic and the artwork was good but not great. Both me and my son thought this was good and interesting but didn’t love it.

I loved reading Estranged! I thought the plot line was original and engaging. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and I've enjoyed pouring over the details. I feel like the story is very relatable and beautiful. The theme of family and friendship was touching. It was fun to go on a little adventure.

Excellent imagery and great storyline. Kudos to Ethan for a great piece of art.

My 8yo got totally swept into this book. He used to balk at my insistence that reading is fun, but this has him asking me what other graphic novels there are out there.

He’s 9. Really liked it.

Used as a gift read it before. Good story even more amazing art!!

My son isn't much of a reader but when he got this he sat for an hour reading it! Bonus!!
